Are your weekend habits really helping you to feel energized and refreshed? Do you often feel sluggish on Monday morning?
Let’s face it, the busy modern woman works hard throughout the week and our first inclination might be to “over relax” the weekend away. Our minds tell us that this is what we need after a long hard week of work. Junk food, ice cream and binge TV watching is just what the doctor ordered for the ailments of a hard work week, right?
On the contrary, nutritionist and author Amy Gorin and Keri Gans say that is not what our bodies need to rejuvenate over the weekend. Incorporating fun activities and staying in to cook healthy foods can be even more re-energizing than a late night Netflix binge session. She suggests activities such as walking the dog, yoga class, swimming, grocery store shopping for morning exercise. Even just an afternoon-long excursion to an antique store or farmer’s market can boost your mood.
Make Saturday night your fun night out and use Sunday to start prepping for the week to come. The one thing all of them agree on is taking time to eat and live purposefully.
Key Points:
- Enjoy time with friends on the weekend as an alternative to easy but unproductive habits such as sleeping in too long
- Switch up your fitness routine during the weekend in order to stay fresh, healthy and alert
- Take part in healthy activities like yoga and swimming during the weekend if you don’t have time during the workweek
“But rather than decompressing with extreme Netflix binges and snack food, nutritionists like to have fun outside, spend time with their friends, and enjoy healthy meals with their loved ones—all activities that help put them in a great place for the next week.”
