Lap swimming at a public pool can be daunting but there are rules. It’s pretty simple. There are lanes and depending on how many people are swimming, there are different sets of rules.
Take a good look at the pool before diving in. Find the resting spot in the pool. Remember where it is. You will use it later in your workout. Do you see lanes set up? If so, are they labeled? Pick a lane that is similar to your swimming level. Do you see people swimming at about the same speed that you do? Join their lane.
Swimming at the same speed as the others is good when sharing the lane. Don’t worry passing is easy. Just tap the toes of the person in front of you and pass on the same side as if you were driving a car.
Key Points:
- Lap swimming, and the rules of it at first can be a little tough to understand.
- When a pool is busy with people, there are ways to make it just as easy to access.
- Lap swimming can be tiring, and you will need your rest in the end.
“If the pool is really busy, fear not it can still run smoothly!”
