What’s the best way to train for a triathlon? If you ask 5 different people you’ll more than likely get 5 completely different answers.
This is because there really isn’t a best way to train; there are multiple activities that you can do to train properly for a triathlon. The most most commonly suggested training regimens are long, basic swimming sessions, short sprints, and focusing on a swimming technique.
Each training style has it’s own advantages and disadvantages, so it’s up to you to decide which one or ones you’d like to try first. Most people base their decision on what they’re looking for most in a triathlon; do you want shorter times or better overall performance while on the track?
Key Points:
- Training for swimming comes down to going faster with less energy.
- Each week you train for swimming is different but still as hard.
- You can eventually swim with a team if that is ok with you.
“You need some swimming interval work to stretch your threshold and maxVO2 levels, some long swimming sessions for basic endurance and mental toughness, and plenty of swimming technique work.”
