Self-determination theory is often referred to as SDT, and it has been proven as a successful way to help people incite higher levels of motivation in human beings. There are three components to SDT, and they are: autonomy, competence, and being connected to others. Autonomy is important because it refers to your levels of power and control. Competence is vital due to you recognizing which areas you are excelling in. Lastly, being connected and related with one another is imperative in avoiding isolation.
