Confidence is important motivation. The process of ‘interrogative self-talk’ results in recognizing obstacles and how to tackle them. Ask yourself what you plan to do to overcome specific difficulties. Don’t ignore the subconscious negativities. Say them out loud and figure out why you think you cannot accomplish something.
Being accountable to yourself is also important. Plan when you will work out and stick to the script. You’re more likely to do something if you can see the plan laid out in the future. Keep your plan practical and keep track of it in a notebook or an app.
Music is another important component of staying motivated. Studies show that music releases endorphin’s and will help you work out longer and harder before you start to get tired. Experts say that the endorphin’s are capable of hiding fatigue. Your favorite songs are key to keeping yourself productive and improving your endurance when running. Choose the right tunes and exercising will feel easier so you’ll be likely to do it for a longer period of time.
Key Points:
- Music has been likened to a legal drug for athletes, listening to music during a workout can extend the duration before fatigue sets in!
- Saying ‘I can’ and ‘I will’ works by making you more positive about yourself and your current situation. Be Confident!
- Hold yourself accountable! Plan ahead and stick to your goal / routine. Last but not leas: Add some good music to get you going!
“You will be more likely to stick to something when you can see it mapped out in front of you rather than just saying you want to do it,” says personal trainer and triathlete Sarah Menlove.
