Sean Vigue for Fit Bottomed Girls demonstrates the top five Pilates exercises for runners. Pilates is a good cross-training exercise for runners to add flexibility, balance, and strength to prepare your body for the constant pounding running creates.
The breathing techniques help produce a smooth and even gait. The exercises are good for either men or women and require only a mat, loose fitting clothing, and your own body weight.
The five exercises demonstrated are from his book, “Pilates for Athletes”. They provide a good stretch without over stretching. The video demonstrates Single Straight Leg Stretch, Tornado Single Straight Leg Stretch, Saw Roll Ups, Rock and Pull, and Pilates Push Ups. Sean recommends either doing them until failure or just doing 10 reps of each.
