There are many ways to motivate yourself to get to the gym and workout. For example such strategies as envisioning the future you (who has not worked out and gained weight for an example) can help you get to the gym more often. Other simple things such as listening to music can help you be distracted from the discomfort of working out and at the same time motivate you as well.

There are two other ways to motivate yourself as well one of which is called prospection and is the ability to predict future thought patterns in your brain. Simply knowing that you will feel lousy if you cancel on a group workout can encourage you not too.

  • Research shows that listening to music during a workout can extend the duration before you get tired, putting exercise somewhere between neutral and enjoyable.
  • The reward for conquering the workout challenge will be worth the work. It is called prospection.
  • Talk yourself up using past experience. Use the past experience and incorporate that into your self-talk
