Roman Mica is passionate about swimming, yet he is not a life long swimmer. He feels that the act of taking a swim requires much more discipline and motivation compared to sports such as running or biking.
He finds swimming more stimulating when he has a coach and lane buddies. Roman is nowhere near the level as his fellow collegiate swimmers. However he swims side by side with them anyway at masters class.
Roman amusingly describes his actual swimming speeds as Easy, Fast and Fasy this is somewhere between Easy and Fast. He highlights his inadequacies, but at the same time has a positive attitude about his performance. His joy comes from having to strive and work hard to be the best swimmer he can be.
- Swimming is invigorating and makes me feel powerful and alive.
- Swimming takes mental toughness and is difficult to get into a routine.
- Swimming with other competitors forces you to be a better swimmer and get faster times and proper technique.
“At my top speed I feel like I’m powering through the water like superman soaring through the heavens.”
